Oh baby! Why are you so fussy?

Babies are funny creatures. They want to put everything that is not edible into their mouths and whatever is edible is thrown away, blown away and trashed into pieces. They master the art of observing the food morsel and then comfortably dropping it on the ground. My sonnies were definitely a pro at this. ..

But being mommy is a full time job and this also involves in looking after his dietary needs. So how do you plan a baby’s dietary and eating habits? These obviously take time.

For this, active involvement of parents and caregivers is required. To make sure that your child makes healthy food choices, it is important for parents to set time and devote energy for effectively teaching dietary preferences to your children. Healthy dietary plan focuses on a good variety of healthy foods and limits the intake of processed food items. Check out the steps below that would helps you to develop good baby dietary habits:

Be a good role model

Do you know that babies learn more from what they see around? So if you talk negatively about fruits and vegetables, then your baby would have tough time in accepting them. Remember that your baby would respond more easily to what all you like, so it’s important to act wisely in front of them.

Talk about benefits of eating fruits and vegetables

Tell benefits of fruit or vegetables before feeding them. Talk to him about great smells, varied textures, and wonderful colors. Talk about vitamins and minerals of food items. Also tell them how nutrients are important for their proper growth and development.

Introduce habit of drinking water

Water flushes out toxins from body, regulates body temperature, aids in digestion, and delivers essential nutrients to cells. From the time you offer solid food items to your baby, the need of water increases, so offer your baby 2-4 ounces of water after each meal. Also ask them to drink as much water as they want.

Offer variety to ensure balanced diet

Variety of foods contains different amount of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other types of nutrients. Including a number of foods in dietary chart of babies will lead to a balanced diet. Remember that when your baby starts eating, variety plays a more important role than quantity.

Maintain a feeding schedule

Babies have small tummies and irregular appetite. So it would be better to plan 4-6 mini meals instead of 3 large meals in a day. Establish set time for each meal to help baby to learn routine.

Give your child enough table time

It is normal for your child to spend a lot of time on the table. Young children do not have the developed muscles or motor skills to eat as fast as you. They also need practice for eating with utensils. Teach them an easy pace of eating which lets them enjoy their food. Any meal that lasts less than 20 minutes leaves them unsatiated.

Don’t give up

Most importantly, babies’ taste changes on daily basis. So, if your baby spits out peas one day, it doesn’t mean that they doesn’t like them. Unless your baby shows any allergic reaction, try it on your child in the next few days.
